2014 Artist of the Year
Studio in the Pines

artist of the year
Charlie & Lynn Escher

We are proud to name Studio in the Pines renowned woodworkers, Lynn & Charlie Escher, as the 2014 New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Artists of the Year.

Lynn Escher started wood turning in 2003 after attending a flower show where the West Palm Beach Wood Turning Club was doing demonstrations. Over the next six months, Lynn and her husband, Charlie, purchased three lathes and for Mother’s Day, Charlie bought Lynn her first set of woodworking tools.  Lynn and Charlie have since traveled across the country and garnered numerous Best of Show Awards for their exceptional works.  Charlie is most proud of his Wooden Hat that placed among the best in the United States.  Lynn has also been the recipient of the Best of Fair award at the Saratoga County Fair where Studio in the Pines annually exhibits and demonstrates the art and craft of finely turned wood pieces.

Lynn and Charlie take great pride in teaching their art to both youth and adults. The Escher’s have been part of the 4-H family in Saratoga County for nearly 40 years, beginning as parents of 4-H’ers in the Pleasure Horse Project then becoming 4-H leaders in Photography, including the peer acclaimed Rural Architecture Documentation Project.  More recently, Charlie provided leadership for the Maple Syrup Project that was offered at the Saratoga County 4-H Training Center.

Currently, Lynn and Charlie continue their dedication as Co-Leaders for the 4-H Wood Turning Project including helping many 4-Hers enter and demonstrate at the Saratoga County Fair and beyond.  The Eschers are also ardent supporters of the New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Program having generously donated both their time and many of their masterfully crafted works to our annual auctions over the years.  When at home, Lynn and Charlie can usually be found working on new projects in their Studio in the Pines in Milton, NY.

Several fine wood items created by Studio in the Pines were featured in the 2014 New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Auction.
